Creation and Culture
Lebanon has a strong cultural
identity that is expressed in all kinds of creative fields. The diversity of religions
has enriched the cultural life throughout the centuries and this diversity is
reflected in a common Lebanese tradition of excellence in the arts. |
|
Jewels, fashion, crafts and music express the attachment of the Lebanese to their
civilisation, derived from antiquity.
Lebanon is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organisation that protects
all creations of human intelligence, whether written, plastic, graphic or oral.
The jewellery sector counts many creators and is flourishing along with tourism,
with more than 60 per cent of production either exported or sold in Lebanon to
visitors. Traditional woodcraft is appreciated but suffers from the competition
of modern furniture. Several companies have prestigious reputations that cross
national borders and are selling their work in neighbouring countries.
Music is also a very dynamic sector with a multiplicity of scenes, events and
artists covering a variety of styles from traditional to techno music.
 |
There are now several production companies and
music managers in the country, and though the local market is limited, Lebanese
singers are famous in the Arab world and the demand for oriental music is growing
rapidly in Europe. There are many theatres in Lebanon, especially in
Beirut, and though this is a sector that needs to be supported by public subventions,
the productions are of a high quality. All these elements will allow the Lebanese
culture to keep contributing to the country’s radiance abroad. |
